Agent chat

Work with the 8090 Software Factory agent in the side panel. Keep several chats open, pick a model, and give the agent the context it needs.

The agent panel is where you chat with the 8090 Software Factory agent inside a project. It sits beside the page you are working on and stays open as you move between modules. You can also start a chat from Home or work with the agent in a full page on the Agents page. The agent knows which module you are in and which item you have open, so you can ask about "this requirement" or "this work order" without linking it.

Open the panel

Select Open Agent in the page header, or press Cmd/Ctrl + L. The shortcut opens the panel and puts your cursor in the message box. Press it again from the message box to close the panel, or select Close Agent in the panel header.

Press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + L to start a new chat. See Keyboard shortcuts for the full list.

To give a chat the whole page, select Open agent full screen in the panel header. The chat opens on the Agents page. If you were in a module, that module opens in a tab beside the chat.

Start from Home

Home in the left sidebar is the first page of every project. Type a message in its message box and send it to start a new chat on the Agents page. The box works like the one in the panel: use "@" to mention items, "/" to pick a skill, and the model picker to choose a model. When the project has something to act on, such as requirements to get started or work orders without a phase, suggestions appear that add a ready-made prompt to the box.

Below the message box, Home lists your recent chats under Continue where you left off, or under Needs Attention when a chat is waiting for you. Select one to open it.

On Home, Cmd/Ctrl + L puts your cursor in the Home message box.

Agents page

Select Agents in the left sidebar to work with the agent in a full page. The sidebar lists your chats in the project under Pinned and Recents. Select New Chat to start one.

  • Open Conversation List Options next to search to order the list by Last Modified or Status, show it as Compact or Descriptive, or go to Archived Conversations. Ordering by Status adds Needs Attention and In Progress sections.
  • Next to the chat is a workspace with its own tabs. Select + (Add tab) in the workspace to open a tab for a module, such as Requirements, Blueprints, Work Orders, Feedback, Knowledge Base, Skills, or Automations. Each chat keeps its own set of tabs, and the agent knows which ones are open.
  • Drag the divider to resize the workspace. Select Close Workspace to hide it, and Open Workspace in the chat header to bring it back.

Chat tabs

Each chat opens in its own tab at the top of the panel. Select + to start a new chat. A new chat is called New Agent until it gets a title from your first message. To close a tab, hover over it and select ×.

Closing a tab doesn't stop the agent. The chat keeps working in the background, and you can reopen it from History.

History

Select History (the clock icon) in the panel header to see your chats in the current project. They are grouped into Pinned, Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, and Older. Select a chat to open it in a tab.

  • Pin: hover over a chat and select the pin icon to keep it under Pinned. Select the icon again to unpin it.
  • Rename, Archive, and Download: open the chat's three-dot menu (⋮). Download saves your messages and the agent's replies as a Markdown file.

Archiving removes a chat from History. To bring it back, go to Settings → Archived Chats and select Restore.

Status dots

Tabs and History rows show when a chat needs you:

IndicatorMeaning
Spinning ringThe agent is working.
Amber dotWaiting for input. The agent asked a question or needs your approval.
Blue dotUnread activity. The agent has output you haven't seen yet.

Choose a model

The model picker is at the bottom of the message box. Select it, or press Cmd/Ctrl + /.

  • Auto uses the default model that 8090 Software Factory sets. Leave it on and there is nothing else to set.
  • Turn Auto off to choose a specific model. The list shows the models your organization allows. Use Search models to find one.
  • To change a model's settings, hover over it and select Edit:
    • Reasoning sets how much the model thinks before it answers. The levels, such as Low, Medium, and High, depend on the model.
    • Context sets the context window size, on models that offer more than one.
    • Options → Fast turns on fast mode, on models that support it. See Fast mode.

Each chat keeps the model you picked for it. Your latest pick also becomes the default for your new chats in that organization, on any device. Reasoning, Context, and Fast settings are remembered for each model in the browser where you set them.

Organization admins choose which models people can pick in Settings → Organization → Models. If a model you picked is turned off there, the picker switches to Auto.

Answer the agent's questions

When the agent needs a decision before it continues, it asks in a Questions card. Pick an answer for each multiple-choice question, or type one for free-text questions. Multiple-choice questions also have a box where you can add a message. Select Submit to send your answers, or Skip All to let the agent continue without them.

The agent only asks these questions in web chat, not in Slack or in automations.

Give the agent context

Mention items with @

Type "@" in the message box to mention a teammate or an item. You can mention Users, Knowledge Base items, Requirements, Blueprints, Work Orders, Feedback, Themes, and Skills. For a requirement or blueprint, you can also mention a single heading in the document.

A mention becomes a link in your message, and the agent reads the item when it needs to. Mentioning a skill works the same as picking it with "/".

Add to Chat

  • From a document: select text in a requirement, blueprint, Knowledge Base document, or skill, then select Ask agent in the toolbar that appears. Your message gets a reference to that part of the document.
  • From the agent's replies: select text in one of the agent's replies and select Add to chat to point at it in your next message, with an optional comment.
  • From Work Orders: select work orders in the table, then select Add to Chat in the bar that appears. Their IDs and titles go into your message.

Attach files

Select Add files (the paperclip), drag files onto the message box, or paste them in. You can add up to 20 files at a time, and each file can be up to 100 MB.

The agent can read text and code files, PDFs, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files, audio, and images. Images larger than 5 MB are uploaded but not attached to your message, because the agent can't read images that large.

Use skills

In a new chat, the skills listed above the message box are suggestions for the module you are in. Select one to add it to your message, or select More to see the rest. Type "/" in the message box to pick any skill in the project. See Skills.

While the agent works

  • Keep typing. Messages you send while the agent works wait in a queue above the message box. You can edit, reorder, or delete a queued message, or send it right away.
  • Stop. While the message box is empty, the send button becomes Stop generation.
  • Follow along. When the agent finishes, its steps collapse into a "Worked for" line. Select that line to see what it did.
  • Review its edits. When the agent changes documents, the changes arrive as suggestions. The Agent Suggestions list above the message box shows them. Select one to open the document, or use Accept All or Reject All.
